Ocean freight to Matola, Mozambique
Matola is an industrial city directly west of Maputo, only about 10 km from the Maputo destination warehouse where A1's price ends. Vancouver is both the cheapest and the fastest gateway here, at about 65 days, against 75 days from Toronto or Montreal. The rate is USD 10 per cubic foot, and the smallest shipment costs USD 618.20.
Charities, churches and families send donations, school supplies and household goods to the Matola area. Donated goods and personal effects both go on carrier approval only; for personal effects, include a signed packing list and a passport copy. The carrier lists a prepaid wharfage charge of $11.00 per weight or measure, and collect freight is possible only on approval. Pallets and crates must be ISPM 15 heat-treated, and they arrive at the Canadian warehouse already built, because A1 does not palletize. With such a short distance, the consignee usually collects at the Maputo CFS with a local truck; that trip, Mozambican customs, duties and taxes are not included, and the carrier confirms destination charges before you pay.
How a shipment to Matola works
Matola is not a destination in the carrier's tariff. The closest priced destination is Maputo about 10 km (straight line) from Matola: the A1 price covers ocean freight from Canada to the destination warehouse (CFS) at Maputo. From there the consignee collects the cargo or books the last leg to Matola with a local trucking company; that delivery, destination customs clearance, duties and taxes are not in the A1 price.
