Freight to Ghent (Gent) via Brussels

Ghent is a historic university and port city in East Flanders, about 50 km in a straight line west of Brussels, where A1's Belgian rate ends at the destination warehouse. Toronto and Montreal both reach it in about 18 days, Vancouver in about 28, and Toronto is the cheapest gateway. You pay USD 3 per cubic foot, with a USD 370.96 minimum.

The E40 motorway links Brussels and Ghent, so the consignee can collect in person or book a local van; that trucking and any Belgian duties and VAT are outside our price. Students heading to Ghent University and Belgians returning from Canada often ship boxes of books and household items, which the carrier accepts on approval with a signed packing list and a passport copy. A commercial invoice is required. Wooden pallets and crates must meet ISPM 15. A1 does not pick up or palletize, so arrange packing before drop-off. Total customs value is capped at CAD 2,000.

How a shipment to Gent works

Gent is not a destination in the carrier's tariff. The closest priced destination is Brussels about 50 km (straight line) from Gent: the A1 price covers ocean freight from Canada to the destination warehouse (CFS) at Brussels. From there the consignee collects the cargo or books the last leg to Gent with a local trucking company; that delivery, destination customs clearance, duties and taxes are not in the A1 price.
