Commercial LCL shipping from Canada to Latvia
Samples, spare parts, stock for a small shop or goods for a customer abroad do not need a whole container. A1 ships commercial cargo in shared ocean containers (LCL) from Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver to Riga. The rate starts at USD 5 per cubic foot to Riga, and the carrier estimates 24–34 days in transit depending on the gateway and the city.
A commercial invoice is required, personal effects are accepted on approval, and EU transfer-of-residence relief applies to used household goods.
Latvian, Russian and English are all common in Riga's business community, so English documents are fine.
Latvian importers: prepaid freight, Vilnius handling. Freight to Latvia is prepaid only, and a commercial invoice is required for every consignment. The tariff routes Riga cargo via Vilnius, with a fixed agency charge and a storage deposit from the consignee, so the Latvian buyer should know these costs before the order is confirmed. Wooden pallets and crates fall under ISPM 15.
An LCL booking to Riga suits samples, spare parts and small batches for a distributor in the Baltic market. Write the importer's EORI number and the HS code of every line on the commercial invoice, and make the packing list match it exactly. A1 accepts consignments with an invoice value of up to CAD 2,000, delivered to our warehouse already palletized or crated, and does not accept dangerous goods. The carrier confirms the destination charges before payment, which is made in Canada.
Riga is quoted at about 24 days from the eastern gateways, so a Latvian buyer can receive goods from Toronto or Montreal in under a month, and about ten days later from Vancouver. The commercial invoice should give the importer's full name and address in Riga, the currency of the sale and the country of origin of the goods, because the papers pass through the agent in Vilnius before the cargo reaches Latvia. Shipments of household goods follow the same route and the same timing.

Documents for commercial cargo
- Commercial invoice. Our commercial invoice (PDF): seller and buyer, a clear description of each item, quantity, unit value, total value, currency and country of origin. HS codes help customs in Latvia classify the goods.
- Packing list. The packing list (PDF) gives the pieces, packed dimensions and gross weight of every pallet, crate or carton, matching the invoice.
- Customs value. The customs value of the shipment may not exceed CAD 2,000.
The importer's details that the carrier conditions below ask for (tax or registration numbers) go on the invoice and the booking. More help: commercial shipping documents.
Pallets and crates
Commercial cargo travels palletized or crated. Wood packaging must be ISPM 15 heat-treated and stamped, or the cargo can be refused at the destination. Stack the cartons squarely on the pallet, no wider than the pallet itself, and stretch-wrap and strap them; label every piece with the consignee's name and city in Latvia. You deliver the cargo, already palletized or crated, to our receiving warehouse in Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver: A1 does not offer pickup and does not palletize. The warehouse measures and weighs the cargo, and the final price follows those measurements.
